The red fox is the largest of the true foxes in the world and is widely distributed not only across the UK but worldwide.

Size : ​ Foxes grow to between 45 to 90 cm (head to base of tail), their tails can be upto 55 cm. An average fox can weigh anything from 3 to 11 kg.

Diet : ​ Foxes are classed as carnivores, however they will eat most foods from rabbits, small mammals, birds, bird eggs to berries, fruit and our food waste.

Breeding : ​ Foxes breed just once a year during the early part of the year. The young are born after a period of 49-58 days. The average litter size is around 4-6 but extremes either side of this do occur.

Behaviour : ​ Foxes are mainly nocturnal but can be seen during daylight hours particularly at dawn and dusk. They will quite often follow the same route as they walk their territories in search of food, this routine behaviour creates tracks/pathways in the undergrowth/grass to enable us to track their movements.

Why control ?
Foxes will raid poultry houses for domestic stock, new born lambs, game birds. Urban foxes will rip open bin bags in their search for food. Their droppings and scent markings create a nuisance and potential health risk. When foxes excavate their dens they can undermine buildings, paths, embankments etc.

Methods of control
The control of foxes can be an emotive subject for some. We will always discuss the most appropriate method to use at the time of the initial visit taking all factors of the site into consideration before any work is started.
